I’ve been visiting Las Vegas my whole life. In fact, going to Vegas was my first time on a plane outside of Hawaii! It became a tradition to visit “the ninth island” with my parents at least once a year, and Woodrow and I have been several times since moving to Colorado. However, I’ve never ventured much outside of Las Vegas until this last trip!

One place that we visited on our most recent trip was Seven Magic Mountains. This popular roadside attraction has been on my radar for years, but since we were so busy exploring Europe, something like this was never really a priority. Keep reading to hear more about our visit and a few tips for visiting Seven Magic Mountains!

About the Art + Artist

The Seven Magic Mountains is an art installation located just outside Las Vegas, Nevada. Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone created the colorful, large-scale art installation. The display is comprised of seven towers made with several brightly-colored, car-sized boulders stacked on one another. Each tower stands over 30 feet high and depicts human presence in the desert.

Seven Magic Mountains is about 26 miles southwest from the heart of Las Vegas. You can find it right off of Interstate 15, not far from Dry Jean Lake. The best way to visit is by renting a car; I highly recommend checking rentalcars.com for the best deals.

Our Visit

We were in Vegas celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday. She and I both had wanted to see the Seven Magic Mountains for a while, so I’m so happy we got to do it! We rented a car, and the drive took about 25 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. There’s a sizeable unmarked parking area. We arrived at about 1 pm, and it wasn’t crowded.

It’s about a five-minute walk from the parking lot to the magic mountains. They were just as magnificent and vibrant as they are in photos! The size of each boulder stack is absolutely incredible and really makes you wonder about the construction of such a large-scale art installation.

Admittedly, our visit was quite short. I’d say somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes. There’s a small plaque at the entrance that explains about the art and the artist, but not much more than that. We basically walked around a little bit, took our photos, and left. Overall, the Seven Magic Mountains met my expectations, but I don’t think it’s somewhere you need to visit more than once.
